First of all, I would like to thank everyone who posts comments on this site. Your words of encouragement and suggestions mean a lot to us as we stumble our way through this journey. We got our first comment from someone outside of our "normal" circle of friends and family (not sure it has ever been "normal") and were very surprised. Thanks, Matt, for the suggestions. We are taking them to heart.
We are still whipping Sea Bird into condition. I serviced the windlass today (this is the winch that retrieves the anchor). Ours is a manual one, very simple but invaluable for retrieving many pounds of anchor and chain from the bottom of the ocean. (Translation: It's a back saver.) Nothing really wrong with it, just crusted with salt and in need of a good shot of WD40. Cleaned out and organized the anchor locker while Carol took one more good swing at the head. (It was a miss. Deck fitting is on order, when it arrives we'll be replacing hoses, valves and pumps. Rob, when did you say you were coming down?) Also finished the dinghy project and replaced the too short hoisting lines and even replaced the drink holder turned handhold. (See previous post. This will be on the exam.)
Tomorrow we are considering a day at the beach. It's looking like beach weather. There are no actual beaches here, so we'll probably drive down to Morehead City to find one.
We posted a few interior pictures of Sea Bird on her page, as well as an updated shot of her crew, you might want to check them out.
